Lookup Coweta County Jail Inmates

Coweta County Jail is the primary sheriff-run detention facility for recent arrests, pretrial custody, local sentences, bond questions, and short-term jail records in Coweta County. People trying to look up inmates at Coweta County Jail should start with the sheriff-linked custody route, then use the jail phone and public-records request process if the online roster does not return a result. This facility is separate from Coweta County Correctional Institution, which is a state-offender prison under Georgia corrections assignment.

Coweta County Jail Overview

Coweta County Jail is operated by the Coweta County Sheriff's Office at the Greison Trail campus in Newnan. The official division page says the Jail Division operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and that detention officers work rotating 12-hour shifts so one jail shift is always working. Sheriff Lenn Wood leads the Sheriff's Office. Major David Hill is listed as the Jail Division contact. The jail holds people arrested in Coweta County, pretrial detainees, local sentenced inmates, holds, warrants, and transport custody.

The jail campus now includes the new C-Pod/Jail Annex known as the Sheriff Michael S. Yeager Wing. That wing is still part of the jail operation, but it matters because family members may hear "C-Pod," "Jail Annex," or "Yeager Wing" when asking about housing or facility rules. Unless jail staff gives an annex-specific instruction, use Coweta County Jail phone, mail, money, and video-visit rules for people held on the Greison Trail jail campus.

Coweta County Jail Population

The exact current Coweta County Jail bed count, current jail population, and jail average daily population were not located in accessible official text. The county did publish a major capacity-related fact: the jail annex completed in 2024 contains 54,000 square feet and was built because of county growth and ongoing jail overpopulation. The county also described it as the first major jail expansion in about 30 years.

Use those numbers carefully. They describe the jail campus and expansion, not a current roster count. A P2C result count, if the inmate module returns, should be read as a search-result count for the active filters rather than the full jail population.

Look Up Coweta County Jail Inmates

The official online route is the sheriff-linked Coweta P2C inmate catalog. Research found that the P2C route and search criteria existed, but the Coweta inmate module was not enabled during testing on June 4, 2026. Treat the online route as the first official check, then move quickly to the jail phone and records process if it fails.

  1. Open the Coweta P2C inmate catalog or start from the sheriff's P2C home page.
  2. Search by last name and first name first, then add age, charge, arrest date, race, or sex only if needed.
  3. If the result is missing, call Coweta County Jail at 770-253-1664 for custody confirmation.
  4. For proof of incarceration or booking records, use Coweta County NextRequest.
  5. If the person was sentenced to state custody, search GDC Find an Offender instead.

Coweta County Jail Address

Use the jail phone for current custody, release, and bond status. Use NextRequest for records copies. The Sheriff's Office main phone can help route broader sheriff-office questions, but the jail number is the better first call for active custody.

Coweta County Jail Mail and Money

Do not use the jail street address for ordinary inmate correspondence. Coweta jail FAQ gives a JailATM Atlanta mailing address for inmate correspondence. Money orders are different and should go to the Greison Trail jail address, made out to Coweta County Detention Center with the inmate's full name and ID number. Outside items are not accepted and will be returned to sender.

Coweta County Jail Booking

A Coweta County arrest generally moves through jail arrival, identity confirmation, property inventory, fingerprints, booking photo when required, charge entry, warrant or hold checks, medical and mental-health screening, bond or no-bond entry, classification, and housing assignment. Inmates cannot receive incoming calls, but the jail FAQ says they may place outgoing calls daily from about 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m., subject to jail operations and discipline.

Money carried into booking is automatically placed on the inmate commissary account. If money is to be released to someone outside the jail, the form must be completed while the inmate is still in booking. Once money posts to the account, release is limited to an approved bonding company or a person with financial power of attorney, with pickup limits on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Coweta County Jail Bond

Coweta County's jail FAQ gives local bond details that are easy to miss. A professional bonding company must be registered and authorized by the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, and a bonding company licensed in another county is not acceptable for a Coweta professional bond. Detention officers are prohibited by law from recommending a bonding company. The approved company list is posted on a television in the Bonding Lobby.

Out-of-county property bonds must be prepared by the sheriff in the county where the property is located. The completed bond must arrive at Coweta County Jail in a sealed package bearing the other county's letterhead, and it must arrive before midnight on the date it was written and signed. Before paying a bondsman, confirm that the person is still in custody and that no other hold blocks release.

Note: The sheriff division page warns that the jail and bonding company will not call the public for bond payments.

Coweta County Jail Records

Not every Coweta County Jail record is visible through the public roster. The sheriff records page routes requests to NextRequest and lists separate forms for general open records, accident reports, photo and media requests, booking-photo affirmation for media, record restriction, personal accident reports, and GCIC criminal-history consent. That form list is useful because it keeps booking records, booking photos, criminal histories, and court records from being blended into one request.

For a useful jail records request, include the inmate's full name, date of birth if known, approximate arrest or booking date, incident or case number if known, and the exact record wanted. Georgia's Open Records Act allows costs and exemptions, and Coweta's NextRequest notice says the first 15 minutes are no charge while broader requests over $25 receive a pre-retrieval estimate. Active cases may be redacted or delayed. Court dispositions still come from the clerk.

Coweta Jail Safety Notes

The jail FAQ and sheriff division page include practical warnings that belong on a facility page. Inmates cannot receive incoming calls. Phone, tablet, commissary, and medical costs can draw from the account. The jail does not accept outside items. Cash should not be mailed. Money for commissary should arrive before the Sunday 11:00 p.m. deadline for that week's store use. Families should also be alert for bond scams because the sheriff warns that the jail and bonding company will not call the public to demand payment. Verify any urgent money request with the jail first, especially after a new arrest.
